This neuronal protein has been identified by Buxbaum et al (1998). The protein binds to calcium, presenilin-1, and presenilin-2 and regulates the levels of a proteolytic product of presenilin-2 in cultured cells.
The protein has been identified independently as DREAM [DRE-Antagonist Modulator], which binds to a DNA element involved in the transcription of the prodynorphin gene (Carrion et al, 1999), and as Kv channel-interacting protein-3 (potassium channel-interacting protein 3) (abbr. KCHIP3 or KCNIP3), a protein modulating the activities of A-type potassium channels (An et al, 2000). KCNIP3 is also the approved gene symbol.
