abbr. DIF (a term with multiple meanings). Several factors have been described under this name in the literature published before 1986. In most cases it is not clear whether they are identical or distinct factors.
One activity described as DIF is produced by murine L929 cells, Ehrlich ascites cells and mitogen-stimulated spleen cells. This activity promotes differentiation of the murine myeloid leukemia cell line M1 and also induces osteolysis. It is identical with human LIF, differing from LIF in one amino acid position.
