IL1raBF

[IL1 receptor antagonist binding factor] This binding factor (60 kDa) has been identified in sera of healthy individuals (Svenson et al, 1993). IL1raBF binds IL1ra with high affinity (Kd = 70 pM) but fails to bind IL1-alpha and IL1-beta (Svenson et al, 1995). The protein is related to or identical with a soluble form of IL1 receptor type 1.

Arend et al (1994) have suggested that some IL1ra may be bound in vivo to soluble type 1 IL1 receptors and that this may lead to underestimations of cytokine concentrations in body fluids when measured by ELISA.
