(-1-) [interferon response sequence] A short DNA sequence found in the promoter regions of several genes the expression of which is modulated by interferons (see: IFN). This region, called also interferon-stimulated response element (abbr. ISRE) is the binding site for regulatory proteins influencing the transcription of genes (see also: gene expression).
The different strengths of IFN-gamma induced promoter activities mediated by ISRE are modulated, at least in part, by control sequences either overlapping with ISRE
