abbr. MSA (a term with multiple meanings). This factor is isolated from rat tissues and serum (Moses et al, 1980) and found in the conditioned medium of some rat cell lines, for example, BRL-3A cells (Buffalo rat liver cells) (Dulak and Temin, 1973; Mayer and Schalch, 1983; Marquardt et al, 1981). The factor shares activity with sulfation factor (Kato et al, 1982) and is identical with human IGF (IGF-2, insulin-like growth factor) (Dull et al, 1984; Hintz and Rinderknecht, 1980).
