[neutrophil-activating protein-3] This protein of 5.3 kDa was observed initially in the process of purifying NAP-1. NAP-3 displays approximately 40 % homology in its N-terminal sequence to NAP-1. The aminoterminal sequence is identical with MGSA (Melanoma growth stimulatory activity). NAP-3 is produced by human monocytes stimulated with bacterial endotoxins.
The new designation for NAP-3 is CXCL1, which is known also as SCYB1.
This factor is known mainly because of its chemotactic activity. For an unrelated function as an antimicrobial peptide in innate immunity see: CXCL1
