Pleurocidin
Pleurocidin is an antimicrobial peptide of 25 amino acids (GWGSFFKKAAHVGKHVGKAALTHYLamide) found in skin mucous secretions of the winter flounder (Pleuronectes americanus) (Cole et al, 1997). For a family of peptides related to Pleurocidin see also: pleurocidin-like peptides.
Peptide sequence and gene organization of Pleurocidin are similar to moronecidin isolated from hybrid striped bass. The peptide has been localized to mucin granules of skin, intestinal goblet cells, and eosinophilic granular cells (Cole et al, 2000; Murray et al, 2003). The cDNA has been cloned
