[receptor interacting protein] RIP (74 kDa) (also RIP1 [receptor interacting protein-1]) has been shown to be a serine-threonine kinase. The human gene has been cloned by Hsu et al (1996). The approved gene symbol is RIPK1 [receptor-interacting serine/threonine kinase 1].
This kinase has been identified by virtue of its ability to bind to the death domain of APO-1 (Stanger et al, 1995). The kinase is recruited also by another protein, TRADD to the type 1 TNF receptor in a process dependent on TNF (Hsu et al, 1996).
