UFO

The UFO protein (in allusion to the as yet unidentified function of its protein when it was identified by Janssen et al, 1991) is being referred to also as ark [adhesion related kinase], tyro7 [tyrosine-protein kinase 7], JTK11) is a member of a family of receptor tyrosine kinases (see: TAM receptors) and is encoded by a transforming gene that was initially isolated from primary human myeloid leukemia cells by DNA-mediated transformation of NIH 3T3 cells (Janssen et al, 1991). The ligand has been identified as gas-6.
