US28

[Cytomegalovirus US28 protein] An open reading frame found in the genome of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The US28 gene is transcribed during infection of permissive cells but is dectable also in semi-permissive and non-permissive cells (Zipeto et al, 1999).

US28 encodes a protein containing seven putative membrane-spanning domains, and a series of well-defined sequence motifs characteristic of the rhodopsin-like G-protein-coupled receptor family (Chee et al, 1990). US28 is related to Q2/3L, a capripoxvirus gene that encodes a protein with features of members of the G-protein-coupled receptor subfamily (see also: Chemokines).

US28 is related (33 % identity) to the ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
