This term, also: abnormal lymphocytes, refers to the appearance of lymphocytes in histological speciments that differ from normal lymphocytes, for example by showing altered shapes, increased DNA amounts, and larger size. Cells can show altered nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio compared to normal lymphocytes and in morphology may look like lymphocytes transformed into blast cells by exposure to mitogens or antigens in vitro.
