[myosphere]
This term has been used to refer to spheroids obtained from cultured cells derived from muscle in serum-free media (see: sphere forming assay). Myosphere-derived cells have been found to express the stem cell antigen Sca-1, CD29, CD90, and CD34, but do not express CD45, CD31, or myogenic markers (Pax7, Myf5, and MyoD). Westerman (2010) has reported that myospheres are composed of two cell types: one that is myogenic (expressiong integrin-alpha-7) and a second that is mesenchymal, does not express integrin-alpha-7, and expresses PDGFRA and Sca-1
