[death receptor-3] This protein belongs to the TNF receptor superfamily. DR3 contains a cytoplasmic death domain known to signal apoptosis. Expression of DR3 appears to be restricted to tissues enriched in lymphocytes. Overexpression of DR3 causes apoptosis and activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B. DR3 interacts with several intracellular proteins involved in mediating apoptotic signals, including TRADD, TRAF2, FADD, and FLICE. Constitutive activation of DR3 is prevented by interaction with SODD [silencer of death domains] (Chinnaiyan et al, 1996).
