GFI1B
[growth factor-independent-1B] This murine zinc finger protein (Tong et al, 1998) is related to GFI1. GFI1B is expressed in bone marrow and spleen but not in kidney, liver, lung, heart, or brain. In myelomonocytic M1 mouse cells expression of GFI1B is downregulated by IL6. Overexpression of the protein inhibits cell cycle arrest and differentiation of these cells caused by IL6.
The human gene is expressed highly in bone marrow and fetal liver and at lower levels in other hematopoietic precursor cells (Rodel et al, 1998).
