[G0/G1 switch genes] This is a general term for genes encoding mRNAs that are overexpressed in lymphocytes entering the G1 phase of the cell cycle (Blum et al, 1990; Forsdyke, 1985; Siderovski et al, 1990).
Some of the genes are identical with known cytokine genes or genes known to be overexpressed following activation of cells by a cytokine. Other GOS genes are members of a family of genes known as SIG family of cytokines. Most of these genes encode proteins that belong to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines.
