[oligodendrocyte-type-2 astrocyte precursor cells]; also: O-2A progenitors [oligodendroglial-astroglial progenitor cells]. These cells are bipotential progenitor cells of glial cells that can be induced to differentiate into oligodendrocytes and a distinct class of astrocytes (type 2 astrocytes) in vitro. These cells, therefore, are used widely to study proliferation and differentiation capacities of glial cells (Noble, 1994).
