[triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2; Triggering receptor expressed on monocytes 2] TREM2 is an activating receptor of the Ig superfamily identified by Bouchon et al (2000). Related factors are TREM1 and TREM3. The protein is expressed by macrophages and dendritic cells, monocytes, neutrophils, Kupffer cells, oligodendrocytes, microglial cells. TREM2 is expressed also in subsets of microglial cells (Schmid et al, 2002).
