The mouse tag7 gene encodes a cytokine of 182 amino acids, which exists in a cell-associated and a soluble form (Kiselev et al, 1998). The soluble form of tag7 triggers cell death by apoptosis in mouse L929 cells in vitro and this process does not involve activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B.
