[basophil cell]
This is a histological term describing the staining behaviour of cells and not a particular cell type. Basophil cells can be stained easily with basic dyes.
Examples of basophil cells are neurosecretory cells found in the adenohypophysis. These include thyrotropes, which produce thyroid-stimulating hormone, gonadotropes, which produce follicle-stimulating hormone or luteinizing hormone, and corticotropes, which produce ACTH.
Note that basophil cells is a general term. A distinct type of blood cells, which also stain easily with basic dyes, are basophils.
