[mineraloclast]
This histological term found in older references refers mostly to cells engaged in bone and cartilage resorption (Knese, 1972, 1976). Thus it may include multi-nucleated and mono-nucleated osteoclasts (as a more general term), or to the more specialized terms chondroclasts, cementoclasts, dentinoclasts, odontoclasts. For a more general term comprising cell types mediating mineralized tissue resorption see also: clastic cells.
