These cells constitute one of the intermedary stages in the development of all three types of granulocytes (see also: myeloid cells). These cells are characterized by a round nucleus and the initiation of secondary granule formation and are still capable of cell division. Basophilic myelocytes eventually become basophils. Eosinophilic myelocytes eventually become eosinhophils. Neutrophilic myelocytes eventually become neutrophils. For a description see also: Brederoo et al, 1983)
