abbr. TRX. Also: thioredoxin-1 (abbr. TRX1) Human thioredoxin catalyzes intracellular disulfide reductions but has also cytokine activity with interleukins after leaderless secretion. Thioredoxin as a growth factor has been identified as BSF-MP6 (B-cell stimulating factor MP6), ADF (adult T-cell leukemia-derived factor). A truncated form that acts as a growth factor is TRX80.
For other proteins, or fragments thereof, with activities different from their established and well known biochemical functions see also: Dual identity proteins MiniCOPE Dictionary.
