This general term is used for primitive precursor cells that give rise to ganglion cells / paraganglionic cells (neurons) and SIF cells [small intensely fluorescent cells] of the sympathetic nervous system (Hervonen, 1975) (see also: sympathoadrenal progenitor cells). This may be the same as sympathicoblasts. See also: neuroblasts.
